A few weeks ago I was given the opportunity to review the book titled Close Encounters of the Third-Grade Kind. I was more than happy to review a book written about 3rd graders, seeing as my oldest daughter was now in 5th grade so I had been a 3rd grade parent before and even a 3rd grader myself long ago. What fun it would be to get an actual 3rd grade teachers perspective on things!
I began reading the book and immediately was pulled in. I literally laughed and cried while reading this book. I can honestly say I have only done this a time or two with other books, usually just one or the other, hardly ever both. There are so many great comparisons and to read what a teacher’s point of view is on the class is just out right funny at times. There were lot’s of times I even read portions aloud to my husband because he was asking what was so funny. Even Kayla got to hear a few chapters. I really enjoyed being carried from month to month through the seasons and during the holidays in Mr. Done’s {it rhymes with phone} classroom. I remember thinking back about all the memories I had during 3rd grade and even playing Heads Up 7UP. A game that I had long forgotten about until it was referenced in the book.
Close Encounters of the Third-Grade Kind is written by Phillip Done, a 3rd grade teacher. A teacher from what I have read any child would have been thrilled to have him teaching their class!
Since I have finished the book Kayla {my 10 year old} is wanting to pick it up and start reading it. She is a huge book worm and can’t wait to start it. I know like me she won’t be able to put it down.
I highly recommend this if you have a 3rd grader or have been one yourself! This would make an excellent teachers gift no matter what grade they may teach because I am sure that they will be able to relate to “Mug Week” and would also love to have a Holiday Hotline for Teachers.
Here is a little description of the book!
A twenty-year veteran of the classroom, elementary school teacher Phillip Done takes readers through a lively and hilarious year in the classroom. Starting with the relative calm before the storm of buying school supplies and posting class lists, he shares the distinct personalities of grades K-4, what he learned from two professional trick or treating 8-year-old boys, the art of learning cursive and letter-writing, how kindergartners try to trap leprechauns, and what every child should experience before he or she grows up.
These charming, sweet, and funny tales of Mr. Done's trials and triumphs as an award-winning schoolteacher will touch readers' hearts and remind them of the true joys of childhood. We all have that one special, favorite grade school teacher whom we fondly remember throughout our adult lives - and every teacher also has students whom they will never forget. This is the perfect book for teachers, parents, and anyone else who is looking for a lighthearted, nostalgic read.

**I received this book for review purposes only. I was not paid for this post and this is my opinion and you may or may not agree.
